Beth Guthrie

Hi!

I’m Beth and I’m a partner, colorist, and stylist here at Hair Haven Huntsville!

I started my career in 2008, fresh out of high school and inspired by the beautiful, rainbow colors I saw in the hair of students at a school I went to tour. I hadn’t known when I went if I really wanted to do hair — and then I saw her: a girl with jet black hair and lavender and turquoise streaks in the bangs.

That was all it took.

In retrospect, that probably isn’t the most clever way to decide you want to attend cosmetology school, but I’ve always been one to act first and ask questions later, laboring under the assumption that gut feelings are a thing for a reason - this was particularly true at 18-years-old.

I was also laboring under a sense of: I’ll figure out what I want to be when I grow up while I’m doing hair.

Spoiler alert: I really like this hair thing. Like, a lot. I think I’m technically a grown-up now and here I am, still doing it.

  • Hair Specifics:

I love a well-done color - especially one that looks like it could’ve grown out of your head that way. The wild thing about that is that it applies to anything; from a rich, dimensional brunette or a fiery, striking redhead to a head full of pinks, blues, greens, and anything in between.

When you find your color, you know it and people take notice.

I want that blonde to be yours.

That violet to get you the fabled, “I wish I could do that!”

I want people to question how on earth they’ve seen the one person in Huntsville whose hair is that gorgeous copper (which is obviously your natural. ;D)

Your hair color belongs to you - let’s make it something to write home about.

    About My Studio:

My mission (in life, but also the salon) is to create an atmosphere where people from all backgrounds feel heard, seen, and welcomed.

Here’s why, (and it’s not just because it’s good business): I am an introvert from way back who always felt more than a little uncomfortable when I went to get my hair done back in the day.

    • There’s the thing about having to talk. What do I say? Do we talk about the weather?

    • There’s the, “What do I do with my hands?” Aspect of things.

    • Do I bring a picture? What if they hate that?

    Listen, friend: you do you.

When you’re here I want you to feel like you’re at a friend’s house — relaxed, at home, with snacks.

Do you wanna talk about your day? Let’s go!

Do you want to sit and not have to say anything? A vibe.

Do you wanna watch cooking shows and wonder aloud why I always have them on and why they’re making fifteen pounds of ramen noodles? You’re my kind of person.

You’re also welcome to bring your laptop (for work or play,) Switch (I have a dock!) or other gaming system with you for color sessions — life doesn’t stop when you’re having your hair done, and I am happy to work on your locks while you work on… work. Or beating up zombies, whichever.

  • A couple years into my career I met my hair bestie, Courtney. She’s the most bubbly person I’ve ever met and nearly immediately adopted me as my emotional support extrovert. We always joked that one day we would open our own salon where she would do all the haircuts and I would do all the color (and then we worked really hard, learned a lot, and decided we would both just do all the things.) That was in 2012 — and in 2020 she did it. That wild ray of sunshine went and opened her own place as everyone was coming out of lockdown and she invited me to join her at dinner one night a year later.

I had to overthink it for a solid 239 days.

She, true to form, was patient with me the entire time.

In the time that we spent working in our own little worlds, I got to meet my friend Jennie who was probably the most intimidatingly pretty human being I'd ever seen. She's also one of the nicest people you will ever meet, and a bomb colorist and blonding artist. (And regular artist, as well! She won't tell you this, but she's a very talented watercolor artist!)

When Courtney and I were talking about wanting to bring in an extension specialist, one person came immediately to mind, and that was Jennie. She's got such a way of seamlessly blending your color and texture with a set of extensions that elevate your natural beauty - and I think you'll absolutely adore her!

There’s something about being among friends that elevates you in your craft. We lift each other up, encourage each other’s growth, and work through things with honesty and compassion — these are the same things we aspire to do as your self-care professionals. We are here to be your Haven: a shelter from the storm of everyday life where you leave feeling lighter and more you than when you entered.

Thank you for giving us the privilege of doing so.
